Continuity, Variant, and DC Multiverse

Continuity is a distinct version of the Legion of Super-Heroes with its own characters, history, and (sometimes) future timeline. continuities are listed here. The Classic Legion (1958-1989) is one such continuity, as is the Earth-247 Legion (1994-2004). Another continuity appeared in Superboy #117; in that version of the Legion, five Legionnaires turned criminal and stole a time bubble to journey back and harass Superboy in Smallvile (spelled with only 3 L's).

L.E.G.I.O.N. and the SCPA are two examples of very divergent continuities: a present-day version of the Legion starring some ancestors of Legionnaires, and a present-day Legion-analog composed of super-powered intelligent dogs.

While continuity is based on the team, Variant is based on individual characters. A character variant could be a temporary change to a character (i.e. a character turned into an infant or transformed by the Emerald Eye), an altered duplicate of a character (i.e. a clone, Bizarro, evil twin, or robot), a new name and costume (i.e. the "on the run" storyline), or a different depiction of a character (i.e. the live-action version of a comic book character, or a character depicted in chibi or scribblenauts style). Variant is completely independent of continuity.

DC Multiverse refers to an alternate universe within the structure of the DC Multiverse. There is no universally-agreed-upon scheme for naming and defining multiple universes. This website draws terminology and classification from this Wikipedia article. There is not necessarily any association between continuity and DC Multiverse. For example, the L.E.G.I.O.N./R.E.B.E.L.S. continuity existed in several different DC multiverse worlds, while both the Classic Legion and SCPA continuities were part of the same DC multiverse world.
