First Empire

Division of the Imperial government which oversees communications throughout the Empire and the Galaxy. Imperial Centcom is a co-operative effort between the Departments of Technology and Commerce. Imperial Centcom maintains the Ultrawave Relays and provides communications software, equipment, and services for the population of the Empire.

Division responsible for regulation, co-ordination, and maintenance of the Empire's Merchant Fleet, which consists largely of privately-owned ships.

Division responsible for the overall economic management of the Empire, including economic policy and all economic controls. Headed by the Imperial Exchequer.

In TE 120, Imperial rule of the Human Galaxy was essentially complete. At that time the Empire consisted of 436 worlds. Of these, 301 were Imperial colonies; 46 were worlds that had joined the Empire voluntarily; 89 had been annexed or conquered.

Of the original 71 Human worlds in 2153 CE, 16 joined the Empire and 55 were annexed during the Formation Wars. Of the 64 non-Imperial-founded colonies afterward, 30 joined and 34 were annexed.

The process of home rule was slightly different for each of these classes, and they will be dealt with separately.

The Department of Commerce is the branch of the Imperial government which deals with trade and commerce between worlds which are full members of the Empire. (Colonial trade is under the auspices of the Department of Colonization.)

The Department of Technology is the branch of the Imperial government which deals with the development, regulation, and maintenance of technology in all its forms.

Deprtment of Technology officials wear light brown uniforms with appropriate insignias.

The Department of Colonization is the arm of the Terran Empire concerned with settling and administration of new colonies.

DeptCol uniforms are sky blue, with appropriate insigniae.

Agency of the First Terran Empire charged with diplomacy and negotiation. During the Formation Period, the DiploCorps was very active and important in negotiations that created a viable Empire out of hundreds of squabbling planets.

In later periods of Imperial history, the Corps was no less important. It acted as lubrication between the various power blocs in the Empire: the Provinces, the Idara, the corporations, the other departments of the Imperial government.
