The primary native lifeform on Midway is the kyapt, a mega-mammal about the size of a large mammoth, with a coat of fine fur that's much in demand in the Galaxy. Kyapt are herbivores who live on the trees and low bushes of the coastal forests and grasslands.
Kyapt have several natural predators; the most dangerous is a burrowing mammal about the size of a fox, called an empert; colonies of emperts dig traps for the large, clumsy kyapt and attack the animals when they're down.

Midway is roughly one-third land, most of which is in the form of one large continent. The coastal lowlands, primarily forest and grassland, are home to herds of kyapt.
Midway's main continent was originally divided into twelve ranches, each automated for maximum kyapt fur production. The oldest and dominant ranch is Lechem in the equatorial zone of the east coast. Counting clockwise, the others are Sheva, Tverya, Kiryat, Medeva, Grizim, Nevo, Herzila, Avadon, Beraq, Ganeden, and Yabok. A thirteenth ranch, Kineret, was added after the Adom/Kah'ol split, and became a de facto headquarters for the Adom party.
