Koltar came to us as poor, barefoot, unwed, and pregnant; she had seven kids, whom we helped her raise until they were old enough to go out on their own. We kept Ascher and found homes for the others.

Koltar was jet black; her full name was Koltar of Athracite. We named all her kids after cuts of diamond, because they were produced from Kol under great pressure:

  • Barion (whose slave name was Darius) (2006 - 2009)
  • Diamond (who died in infancy) (2006)
  • Princess (2006-2008)
  • Radiant (2006 - 2007)
  • Rose (2006 - 2009)
  • Taviz (whose slave name was Harvey) (2006 - 2007)

Rose, who lived a documented three years and more, was the longest-lived hamster we've ever known personally.
