Reemerging
It’s been far too long since I last posted, for which I apologize. Partly, it’s that 2021 was not a particularly good year personally. I lost family, friends, and cats, and have been dealing with the fallout ever since. In many ways, I’ve been very fortunate, in that I’ve been able to ride out the worst disruptions, but I am very tired of it. And just very tired.
On the other hand… As I mentioned in my last post, I sold Master of Samar to Candlemark & Gleam, and have received a round of edits from Athena Andreadis that were so spot on that I can’t believe I didn’t think of these things myself. For once, I’m looking forward to revisions! But first I have to finish Fallen, the sort-of sequel to Finders, set in the Successor period and revolving around the struggling space station, Callambhal Above. I’m almost done with this draft, though I have already figured out what I need to do in the next, hopefully final, version. I’ve also started a new fantasy project that I hope will come together by the end of the year.
I remain very grateful to all the supporters of the Astreiant Patreon. Not only does that steady income make my life considerably easier, but the sketches have given me some ideas for the next book in the series, which I now think may be Point of Hearts. Things are in flux at Lethe Press, the series’s home for the last ten-plus years, but I’ll post about that once I know anything solid.
In the meantime, it’s spring: yesterday the temperature barely got above 50F, and today it was nearly 80F. I have turned on the heat and made iced tea in the same day. I have taken the first month of deliveries from my local CSA — spring onions are still available, though the green garlic is past — and I’m hoping for a bounteous tomato season.
