PostHeaderIcon Home Guards

In addition to regular Imperial Navy protection, each Imperial planet housed a Home Guard unit, composed primarily of citizens of that planet and charged with last-ditch protection of the planet.

These Home Guard units varied in size and equipment, but always included several starships and access to weapons. Home Guard units were under the command of the Navy, not local authorities.

After the Battle of Karphos in TE 361, the Empire continued to weaken. In TE 361-380 Patala took over much of the Transgeled. On 26 August 381, Patalanian forces made a surprise raid against Terra, defeated TERRAD, and sacked New York and other Terran cities.

Patalanian Union forces struck from bases near BDA Tr#ska, bypassing the Anitweta Leap and surprising Imperial forces at Karphos. The battle was a ringing victory for the Union, and the first major military defeat suffered by the Empire.
